YouTube plugin error BLUE BLOOD ON HER WEDDING DRESS

Have you ever had something hit you mentally, sort of like a road block in life, and at that time you knew that your life was never going to be the same? Well I know that I certainly have, many times as a matter of fact. But this time was different. The time and place was here in Tucson Arizona, and it all started with my older sister Laura.

This was during my 8th grade year at school and everything was going good at school and at home until we started seeing my sister less and less. Also she had been acting kind of weird for a few months but no body knew what the reason was. It felt like we were slowly losing her. Later she admitted that she was driving out to Oro Valley Tucson to see her new boyfriend, and then things started to settle for a while because no one really minded until a few months later. My little sister had overheard conversations between her and her closest friends about a commitment and someone moving to Hawaii. Plus, my little sister told me about all of these conflicts and things she was hearing my sister talk about. I started to put the puzzle pieces together when I saw an extremely large diamond ring resting on my older sisters finger. That’s when I realized that her boyfriend had asked her for her hand in marriage and she had said yes. I put this idea in my head before this and even my little sister told me that she thought that was why she was talking about all of that and acting so strange. But I never believed her, because I guess I didn’t want to believe her. Finally the day came during the summer before I started high school, when my sister decided to tell my mom and dad that she was going to go get married in Hawaii and live with her husband there. She also confessed that her husband was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and she knew that my dad would never have been okay with that.

My whole family had their reasons for being disapproving of the Marines, but that’s not why we didn’t accept this marriage. The reason was because she really only knew him for 2 years, and Laura was only 18. She had her whole life ahead of her, and it didn't even cost her any money because my dad was going to pay for her whole college education, books, car, home and everything else that she needed. Then, she threw all of that away because she though that she loved a man who had been in and out of his stationed base in Hawaii. In that case, even though they had been together for 2 years, they had truly, only been physically together for about 3 months in that time.

We saw all of these changes overtime getting worse and worse. We started seeing my older sister less around the house, she started slacking in school, and worst of all, putting her boyfriend before our family.  One night, she came to our house, gave me and my younger siblings hugs, and told me that she would text me the situation later.  With disappointed faces from my parents, Laura left the house and drove away.  Never have I seen her again up to this day, and she has lost all respect from the family.

The thing that I’m trying to tell people is that education is more important than, and should be higher of a priority then a relationship. Use what you learn, and become a successful person and you never know who you could meet along the way of you career path in life. This may be an opinion, and I’m not trying to force anyone to change his or her ways. All I’m trying to say is that this whole event changed me and made me realize that school is my number one priority now, and I think that if everyone made school their number one priority, and friends and relationship came second, then things could still go how you want them to, or maybe even better! If you throw your life away and fail to get an education,  you never know what you could have achieved in life.  Even if you don’t have that much confidence, you don’t think you can make it, or you’re just a bit lazy…. Still try to achieve as much as you can in life, because it could be extremely beneficial to you in the future.

Ryan, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and ideologically, you have an excellent story to tell. I'm sorry you had to experience this, but at least you were able to successfully communicate your thoughts onto paper. Great job!

Dude, this is awesome! It really shows the impact and turmoil your sisters decision made in your family. Everybody makes choices in their lives. Your story makes it clear which ones are really important.

Your story is really good. You did such a great job and your writing really showed how much your sister means to you and what you felt like when she left. Good job!
