First day of basketball.

By Robin Afeldt

After being in school a couple of weeks Robin decided to join the basketball team. He only had played with his friends from Sweden and never played on an actual team before. The first day of practice was right after school and Robin was a little bit nervous because he didn't really know so many of the kids.  They started to run around the gym four times and after the running the coach came to talk to them and give them jerseys. His name was coach P. It was exciting for Robin to play on a real wooden basketball court  for the first time. Before he had just seen it on TV. The hardest part for him was the position drills. Robin wanted to quit because he didn’t know any thing about the positions and had never played a game before with a team. “Robin,  you should not quit because you don’t want to be a quitter and it makes it easier for you to quit in other sports."  Coach P said.  After Robin thought hard about what the coach said he was still not sure to quit or not and before Robin talked to the coach again a 7th grader told Robin he should not quit also.  ”You should not quit you're good.”Josef said. Robin responded with ”I don’t know anything about the positions”. At breaks he often would go with Noah and play basketball at the middle school court before every game. For him this was a change of life style.  Robin finally decided to stay on the basketball team. Coach P got happier when Robin decided to stay on the team . Coach P decided to help Robin with lessons every Sunday. It was hard but he picked it up fast and it was exiting for him to learn how to play all the positions that he didn’t know before and after Robin was excited to play because he got to know more after he finished the lessons with Coach P.  At the game coach put in Robin,Carter, Noah, Jake and Garret. Jake had the ball. Robin ran to where he was supposed to be. Jake dribbled around the opponents and went to the two pointer line.   he shot it and the basketball bounced off the backboard. and Robin went forward and took it and placed it in to the basket and made not only the games first score but his first score in an actual team game. The game continued for a long time the team got 7 more baskets they got 8 baskets total and that is about 30 points. They played hard but sill lost with 10 points but it was an amazing experience for Robin that game to get the first score . After the game the a team which are the 8th graders. Had to stay and watch the b team which are the 7and 6 graders. The b teams game was interesting it was even between the two teams the score was always going back and fort but in the end some 7 grader made the last score and they won there game. But even if the a team lost there it was a good game. And the next game the a team had was against greenfield it was a home game it was robins first home game this time Robin wasn’t nervous, instead he was excited to play. The game started out great and it was kept going grate during the hole game they won that game with 45-0 everyone was happy over there victory against greenfield. They faced greenfield again but this time it was there home court. All the players had got to much confidence from the last game they tough this was going to be a easy match but it was close one There was a lot of mistakes but the team manged to win any way the score was 45- 40 it was close to a loss but they managed to get those last five points in the last minute of the game

I think you should use much more pronouns. fix a few grammar mistakes too. You used the third person, but i think you made it work! good work!

I really liked your video, and the way you showed your life before the move and then trasitioned into playing basketball at St. Gregory. This is a good coming of age story and shows that the transition for Sweden to Tucson wasn't easiest but you found something you loved to do. The transition from not being very confident in yourself to the team being a little over confident is realistic and something that a lot of people can relate to:) The description of a game added to the story, and Joseph telling you that you should keep playing was a good use of dialogue. I'm really glad that you kept playing, and I liked the way you started out describing how you were feeling and what you were struggling with and by the end, feeling like a member of the team.

That was a good transition story. I didn't understand however the third person view of the story. You included your thoughts and feelings so I would assume it would be better in 1st person view.

That was a great story! I know I can't relate to what you must have went through moving countries, but I can imagine how hard it must have been for you! Your video is really good too!
